This is a super fun class.  You will use encaustic wax, alcohol inks,  old papers, dried flowers or leaves,  copper wire, torn and patina’d corrugated cardboard and more to create this beautiful garden with the feeling of Wabi Sabi ~

What is Wabi Sabi?  Here is a brief understand that I have of what it means or is. Its the acceptance of imperfection which becomes perfection through your own point of view!  In many ways, this is how I have always seen or felt about life. Here is the link to Wiki which explains more about Wabi Sabi.  The elements you add to your Wabi Sabi piece can be of your own choice, whats important is what and how you feel that is perfect for your i’m-perfect creation!

I had taken a photo of this grungy looking cardboard about year or two ago and had always wanted to recreate it, and this is the end result.

FREQUNTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What techniques will I learn in this course?

This is a hot wax project and you will learn how to add multiple layers using papers, wax and natural elements. You will be applying hot wax (encaustic wax) with a chip brush and drip wax to add texture.

Will I need special equipment?

You will need a small hot plate and a heat tool or torch. We don’t use a lot of wax but it does need to be melted in advance to creating this project.

Where can I buy my supplies?

I provide a downloadable supply list with links to where I typically purchase my own supplies.  Many times, Amazon has what I need. I do my best to keep your cost down as I know art supplies can be costly.

About how long will it take me to complete this project?

Much depends on how comfortable you are with using hot wax. And how long it takes for the layers to dry and cool.  This took me at least 2 hours mostly because of making the videos.   You want to take your time and not worry about any mistakes as this is a piece that what you think are mistakes are actually part of your design.  Not all mistakes…are mistakes!

Is there anything else you teach in this course?

YES! in fact, I show you how to make your own clear encaustic wax. There is an entire lesson just on this topic. I also show you how I created the ink dyed paper used in this project.

What if I get stuck and need some help?

I am here to help you with any issues you may come across. I do have a day job so certain times of the day I may not be able to assist you right away but I will do my best to respond as quickly as I can. You can contact me by email anytime.

I can also help you through Zoom in real time if needed.
