My project is called ” Going In Circles”.  I chose this title because sometimes that is how I feel my life has been lately.  We are all in a mixed up world right now and sometimes we need to get out of that state of mind.  This was my way of doing that and I hope you will find it helpful for you too!

You wonder why this title for this painting??? and what does it mean???  I absolutely love to look up words on thesaurus.com.  Its the perfect place to look for alternate words that mean the same thing or have similar meanings.  Perspicuity means ~

SYNONYMS FOR PERSPICUITY

1 clarity, plainness, intelligibility.
2 transparency. Perspicuity, perspicacity are both derived from a Latin word meaning “to see through.” Perspicacity refers to the power of seeing clearly, to clearness of insight or judgment: a person of acute perspicacity; the perspicacity of his judgment. Perspicuity refers to something that can be seen through, i.e., to lucidity, clearness of style or exposition, freedom from obscurity: the perspicuity of her argument.”
 
With this painting, it has layers, all which are clearly seen!  Perspicuity is a powerful word and I feel this painting needed a powerful title to show all its layers.  I hope you enjoy the video as it shows you the basics of its creation.  Below are the final images of the piece.

What Are Wabi_Sabi & Enso?

What are Wabi_Sabi & Enso?

I have been fascinated with the Wabi-Sabi belief and way of life.  It is an ancient japanese art of imperfection with creative thought, peace, and acceptance. It is an understanding and way of life in Japan. There are no discussions about it unless one is asked.   Wiki has a great description of what it means.  I think I have always felt this way and my art shows it in so many ways.  Even my photographs I have take years ago when I was a teen, you can see that I have this thing about old ugly stuff that is really super cool!

When doing the hunt for some wabi sabi images, I also found there is a symbol and I just love the simplicity of it.  So I created it my way which you see below.

ENSO – It’s a little funny because I actually just finished a beautiful painting and what little did I know that I make ENSO rings all over it!  I was wondering what I was going to name it…LOL

Here is an excerpt from Wiki that explains more about Enso

“The ensō symbolizes absolute enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe, and mu (the void). It is characterised by a minimalism born of Japanese aesthetics.

Drawing ensō is a disciplined-creative practice of Japanese ink painting—sumi-e (墨絵, “ink painting”). The tools and mechanics of drawing the ensō are the same as those used in traditional Japanese calligraphy: One uses a brush (筆, fude) to apply ink to washi (a thin Japanese paper).

Usually, a person draws the ensō in one fluid, expressive stroke. When drawn according to the sōsho (草書) style of Japanese calligraphy, the brushstroke is especially swift. Once the ensō is drawn, one does not change it. It evidences the character of its creator and the context of its creation in a brief, continuous period of time. Drawing ensō is a spiritual practice that one might perform as often as once per day.[1]”

Back to Wabi Sabi, here is one of my newest classes which only took me about 6 months to put together… Yes, sometimes it seem like life is not in your favor..LOL  But it is finally up and running.  Take a peek at the class and see what you think!

Merry Christmas!

UPDATE!! 7.11.20

OK my friends.  I had no idea this video was a mess.  I dont know what happened, but I was going through my posts and though I would review this one.  I started watching it and all of a sudden..music came blaring on, my voice disappeared and it did some weird stuff.  I went to edit the video to correct it, and discovered that there was this glitch.  I know I know..how can Adobe Premiere be glitchy???  I ended up uninstalling it completely, then reinstalled the software… It worked, no longer glitchy, but took me over an hour to fix the problem  It should be perfect now…so if you were not able to watch it without going…oh, this is nice… well…its fixed!!! Craziness!  Who knows what happened…probably my doings…LOL  So now kick back and take a peek….

Here is a fun little video I create for you.  I know its a tad late, but its still super fun to make!  I did a little hunting for the seaglass pieces on Etsy and the place I typically order from does not have them available.  Since I am also a designer for the company who makes these, I am just going to order them myself and put them up on my site…  If you want to make this fun tree, just give me a shout if you need the seaglass pieces. I will also update the blog post when I have them listed on my website…

Creepy Doll

Wow, it finally got this awesome doll completed. It was a special order from my sons friend. I will be honest, its taken me way too long to get this done. He has been so patient and I truly appreciate it. I think in the long run, it was worth the wait. Its been over a year since I had made a doll of any kind and I am way over due. To me, these dolls are what make me tick! Ive done lots of paintings and graphics, stuff like that, but the dolls have more meaning somehow. I feel like they are a part of me if that makes sense.

Will, the proud owner of this creepy doll, told me to go for it, do what ever I wanted. He wanted something similar to the doll on Toy Story.               Arrow                        

Below is the finished piece and I thought I would create a video of how I put it together.  Its one of those speed type videos so you really dont get all the details, but its still fun to watch.  I hope you enjoy it too!

Not Sure What To Name This, Any Ideas?

Yesterday I was playing around, well, actually it was Friday night…and I got lazy and was tired. So I gathered up some stuff to do a watercolor painting and set up my bed nice and cozy. I found this great photo on Pinterest and thought..hmm…lets see what I can do with this. The end results are not that great I must admit, but it was still fun to create even if it was in my bed. It was getting late and I couldnt keep my eyes open so I set it aside and snoozed until hubby came home from work. Yes, he is working really sucky hours right now..but only for a week!

You can tell I was not quite awake when I painted this first one…LOL..the head is not centered on the neck, her eyes are a little wonky…but I think she looks more like an African Goddess then the painting below.

all the basic colors are down now, but I did mess up a little on the left eye.

I dont typically paint with watercolors, but I love them! I guess you either hate them or love them right? Even though it is less forgiving, you can make corrections or just change up what you started out with.

This is where I noticed she was looking a little like my sister in her younger days…she is still pretty even today!

I thought I would change the way I painted the headdress. I like this much better. I thought of putting it over here eyes, but then it really would have changed the look.

Now that it is complete, it actually resembles my younger sister even more. We have been talking a lot this weekend, texting, so perhaps she was on my mind the entire time of creating this painting. I think her nose is not quite wide enough and her skin color is not quite dark enough. Her eyes needed to be deeper in color too, but you know what? She is beautiful! I truly love how she turned out with the flaws and all…

PS…after talking with Brenny in NY, she suggested to make her skin darker to use chalk…and I did! I think this is absolutely perfect…she has darker eyes, darker skin tone and when I scanned her, for some reason all the colors seemed to better. I did scan her in as a TIFF and used a smaller dpi for this picture, and there is just a huge difference in colors. I didnt even need to do much of an edit in PS, just deepened the colors a tiny bit and maybe a little brighter. I typically scan my images as a JPG or PNG, but I think a TIFF is the way to go from now on. I know the files are going to be much larger, but the quality of the scan is superior. AND.. I got lucky…about a month ago, I bought the last 2 external hard drives…yup! 4 TB each…now thats some saving power right!!! They were on sale…and I saved over 150 bucks! Now I dont need to be quite as afraid of larger beautiful scans!
